3 Reasons Why You Feel Unmotivated to Practice Guitar

You lose motivation to practice guitar for one of several reasons. Understanding these reasons and changing your approach to practising helps you enjoy the process more and get better results.

Here are three huge reasons why you lose motivation to practice and how to get it back in order to make faster progress:

Reason #1. You Waste Time Without Realizing It

This makes it seem like you need to increase your practice time to make faster progress (which isn’t always possible). In reality, getting better results from guitar practice is about quality NOT quantity. You just need to make your practice time more efficient. The best way to do this is to work together with a guitar teacher who has helped many others reach their musical goals.

Reason #2. You Are Missing Some Part(s) Of The Practicing Process

Most commonly: You’re not tracking the progress you make with practice, so you don’t know what is or what isn’t getting results for you.

You may go weeks, months or years without making much progress simply because you didn’t track the effectiveness of your practice. Tracking progress helps you see the very specific ways that your practice items are helping you improve your playing. For example, how many notes you are missing, how long it takes you to switch chords, etc.

Your guitar practice becomes more effective when track your progress weekly to refine methods that aren’t working. You also become more motivated when you see exactly how you are much getting better over time.

Reason #3. Having Too Much To Practice (Which Causes Overwhelm)

Practicing guitar becomes overwhelming when you give yourself way too many materials to practice. This common mistake happens when guitarists do not have clearly-defined musical goals, do not know what to practice or lack a clear strategy to help them reach their goals as efficiently as possible (or any of these things). For example, many guitar players pile on materials such as exercises, songs, riffs, scales, arpeggios and so on. With no clear reason for practising them, they quickly become frustrated and see the practice as being pointless because it never gets them anywhere.

Take lessons together with a guitar teacher to develop an effective practice schedule. This ensures that you are always on track with your goals without overwhelming you with a ton of unnecessary material. Achieving your goals quickly and effectively helps you feel enthusiastic about your progress.

The Dangers of Asbestos: A True Story (just come up with a story of how a friend had mesothelioma)

A while back, I used to ride with a friend named Darren. He was a good man. He was great at bass guitar and is one of the best I’ve played with over the years. He was older than most of the rest of us and had experience in the merchant marine before joining a band.

Now, you may be wondering why I’m referring to him in the past tense. It’s because Darren’s dead. He died on the road, surrounded by his bandmates. The asbestos that was on the ship he was on got to him at last.

Today, I wanted to remember him. And not just because he taught me a valuable lesson about how important asbestos removal Perth is.

Darren was a man who loved his family but couldn’t bring himself to be around them for very long. There were some issues, but he never elaborated on them. All I know is he and his son weren’t on the best of terms during the one time I saw them interact.

He had a knack for finding the right thing to say to make people laugh. He could have been a comedian if he wanted, but he never really understood the appeal of being on stage alone.

Darren did not like ham. It was the only thing he wouldn’t eat. He liked to tell stories about strange foods he’d eaten while he was at sea. Goat’s eyes, raw duck eggs, and all sorts of unusual local delicacies. He would never touch ham. “Something about the texture,” he explained once.

Throughout the time I knew him, he held on to only three prized possessions. One was a pair of old boots that had seen better days. He never wore them, but he’d keep them close. One time, I saw him talking to them. I never did get that story out of him.

Another was a well-worn copy of a compilation of Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry. He had little notes in the margins, and it was a pretty beat-up book. He’d read it every so often.

He was a huge fan of music and didn’t much care for following particular artists or genres. If he liked a song, he liked it. It didn’t matter if he didn’t like anything else the band or singer did. It’s why he would be playing Elvis one moment and the next he’s jamming to Rage Against the Machine.

He was a gentleman. Not once did I ever see him act in a manner that was impolite to a woman, even if she was rude herself. He minded his manners more than I ever saw anyone else, but he never pressed it on the rest of us.

No, us being polite and minding our etiquette came all by itself. We followed his example. I like to think he was proud of us.

On his last day among the living, Darren left us his last prized possession. A small velvet pouch full of coins. All the coins were from foreign countries, collected during his years at sea. Each one, he said, was a reminder of a moment he felt “alive.”

Repetitive Strain Injury in Musicians

Regretfully musicians have an increased likelihood of developing recurring strain injury. Many factors contribute to this including less than ergonomic tool design, high stress levels when performing and unremitting lengthy practice sessions. My own first piece of advice to any musician who thinks they’ve developed repeating strain injury is no longer panic! Whilst this imposition can be physically very painful and mentally bashing, it is an indication from your body change is required. With the right energy and determination the process of restoration can be a time of positive reflection and will only in order to benefit you in the long run.

There are plenty of more problems triggering recurring strain injury in artists than a short article can cover so We are going to give attention to one in particular which There is prevalent. This is tension in the neck of the guitar and shoulders. When wish worried about performing, frightened of making mistakes or higher worked and exhausted this often manifests bodily as tightness in the shoulders. Over time this puts pressure on the nerves and tendons working down your arms and into your hands. Pertaining to many musicians with recurring strain injury, simply eliminating this tension can go along way to reducing the symptoms. The first step to obtaining this is to sit and relax. Focus on getting the tension in your shoulders and then permitting it go as you breathe out. Just as you do this, say in your head “my shoulders are relaxed”. Following practicing this for a few weeks everyday, you can commence to try and maintain the leisure as you practice. There are a lot of websites out there that can provide you with the information you need. That sounds simple, but you will find a great deal of concentration is required to really give attention to letting go of the tension. This procedure alone can be very therapeutic.

You’ll likely find the tension comes back shortly after you’ve began practicing otherwise you attention is diverted returning to playing. No longer worry. Stop, do the relaxation without your device, and then return to it. It will take time and patience, but after a while you will commence to feel more relaxed whilst participating in and commence to lessen your risk of repetitive pressure injury. To not get worried, as long as you learn to recognise this and act appropriately, you will be able to look after your body.

Below is info a quick introduction and it will be highly recommended to see a quantity of doctors to gain many points of view. Regardless, it is important to remain as positive and calm as it can be in order to achieve restoration.

How to Take Care of Yourself While Touring

It’s easy to get carried away when you tour. The lights, sound, people, and hype. It takes you away and makes you forget about all your worries – including your health. Which, I hate to reiterate it but, is not really good for you.

See, I can’t count how many friends or colleagues I have lost due to failing health. A lot of them were good musicians who could’ve played a bit more if they kept themselves healthy. Still, I am no saint and I admit I have had my share of bad practices in the past. That’s why I wrote this piece for those musicians who are just starting their career and don’t want to end it anytime soon due to health problems.

I have compiled a number of tips on how you can stay healthy or at least not give your body any problems. Here’s the list.

  1. Don’t forget to eat – This is one thing that I can’t stress as much. Because of the demanding nature of a gig, a lot of musicians forget to eat. If they do, they don’t enough. For regular viewers, you might just see a couple of people playing with instruments but they are actually using up a lot of energy to keep up with the music. Eat up.
  2. Keep hydrated – You sweat when you play. The general idea is to always have a bottle or two of water close when you play. If you are in a fairly hot area, it’s a good idea to drink more than usual. You can also go for those energy drinks but water is the best out there.
  3. Keep alcohol consumption minimal – It’s OK to drink a couple of beers during a gig but filling up your liver to the brim every night is not good if you want to survive a long life. Just make sure you drink enough to make you happy but not too much that you forget what happened last night.
  4. Stay safe – Tours offer a lot of temptations in various forms. Make sure you keep safe at all times. Be smart. You can check out a North perth Physio if you feel like something is wrong.

Finding Inspiration on the Road

Inspiration can be hard to find on the road. The stress, the need to stick to the schedule, and the pressure to find some time to practice can all make it hard to come up with anything new. While you don’t need to come up with new songs a lot, it helps keep your set lists fresh.

However, don’t assume that finding inspiration is impossible. Finding insights and ideas on the road can happen. Here are some of the things that have worked out for us over the years.

One idea is to listen to a genre you don’t usually hear.

Sticking to your “sound” can be an excellent way to characterise your music. However, it also means that after a while, your ideas are locked in an echo chamber. Try listening to other “sounds,” other styles. Most of it you’ll probably not like, but you’ll pick up an idea or two that can inspire you.

Take a night out.

If stress is getting in your way, de-stress. Take a night off, turn off the phone – or at least stop paying attention to every little notification. Maybe have your favourite food for a meal, find a quiet place. Do whatever it is that takes your mind off your worries.

Work within constraints.

We are always being told to think outside the box. Here’s the problem, musicians are artists. By default, they think outside the box. The real challenge for us is to think within a box.

Give yourself a deadline. Actual pressure can do wonders for inspiring creativity.

Pick a theme and work within it. Most of the time, the theme comes in the lyrics, but that’s not necessary. Sometimes, even the melody can carry it. A theme can be so powerful that it can inspire entire discographies.

Read a book. Great ideas are great ideas, no matter where they come from. A turn of phrase, a scene, or even just a casual gesture in literature can inspire entire albums.

Places to Go If You’re A Traveling Musician

When you’re a traveling musician, it isn’t quite the same as being an ordinary tourist or traveler. Some of the details are different, and that alters the experience. For one thing, your itinerary is much less flexible, and when you say you have to be there at a particular time, there is no room for negotiation.

One thing that remains consistent is that there are some places where travel is easier. There are also some places where you’d rather not go back if you can manage it. Some of the considerations are different, though.

With these in mind, these are some of my favorite places to travel as a musician, and one I would not go back to if I had the choice.

Switzerland is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and it shows. The hospitality is some of the best on the planet, and there is always great pay for great music. The transit makes getting around easy, and even a little fun and the people are friendly.

Vietnam is a terrible place. The war kind of killed the artistic scene, which has only barely begun to recover since. The pay is mediocre at best, and the hospitality is rough around the edges – a contrast that is sharp next to most Asian countries. Getting around is also flat-out hard.

Belgium is great! They love music, the people are friendly, and know how to have fun. The most difficult part of it is getting a foot in the door. Once you have an in, though, it’s smooth sailing. The pay isn’t as good as in Switzerland, but the crowds have the same energy and passion.

Finally, there’s Ireland. The accent can be odd to some ears, but the people are kind and have great character. People get drunk, but it’s the fun kind of drunk. The pay is decent, but the travel is easier on you because there’s never a long distance from point to point. The crowds love their live music.

Music for the Soul

I really don’t have much to say today except a quote from Hans Christian Andersen

Music has been a form of therapy for a lot of people throughout the years. In reality, music is not about having the best voice, making the most amazing guitar riffs, or titillating drum solos. Music is all about expression. That’s the reason why most of the successful (not necessarily rich, but successful) artists are those that really use their music to express themselves.
